Boko Haram bombs Gombe motor park, 20 killed

No fewer than 20 persons have been reportedly killed after suspected Boko Haram members attacked a bus station in Gombe.

The latest attack, which occurred on Thursday also left 15 people injured, according to AFP.

This renewed attack is coming barely five days after the successful conduct of the 2015 presidential poll.

An indigene, who gave his name as Muhammad Garkuwa, told newsmen that the incident occurred around 8pm.

His words, “We had an explosion outside the motor park (bus station) this evening around 8:30 pm (1930 GMT) which killed five people and injured 15 others.

“The explosion was from an explosive left by a woman in her handbag beside a bus waiting to convey passengers to Jos.”

Another food vendor, Yusuf Darazo, also confirmed the report.

He said, “No-one suspected her. People around assumed she was making calls before the bus filled up.

“As she was talking on the phone, she moved away from the bus towards a row of kiosks, as if she wanted to buy something, leaving her bag where she was standing.

“She disappeared and the bag exploded soon after, setting the bus on fire. I saw five dead and several injured.”

Meanwhile, the defence headquarters was yet to react to the development at the time of filling this report.

UPDATED: Kano INEC Commissioner, family die in mysterious fire incident

The Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abdullahi Minkaila has been killed in a mysterious fire outbreak.

The deceased was burnt along with his wife, Zulaiha and two children, Aisha and Asmau, in an inferno when his residence was engulfed by fire early Friday morning.

The late Minkaila and his family were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where they gave up the ghost Friday morning.

Spokesman of the Independent Electoral Commission, Mallam Garba confirmed the incident.

He said the bodies of the victims were already being conveyed to the late Commissioner’s native Dutse in Jigawa, for burial, in line with Islamic tradition.

Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the sad incident.

According to him, the fire might have been caused by a spark in the family’s generator set at about 4a.m.

He said the fire later spread to other parts of the house and that the INEC Commissioner and his family tried to escape through the window of one of the toilets in the building but were blocked by a burglary barrier.

Majiya said the State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, and the Deputy Police Commissioner in-charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), arrived the scene almost on time.

They were the ones that rushed the INEC commissioner and his family to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

Neighbours, however, wonder how a generator spark led to the kind of fire that engulfed a whole building killing all occupants.

Minkaila presided over last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections in Kano.

How TB Joshua Predicted Kenya Terror Attack

As the world joins the nation of Kenya to mourn the nearly 150 victims of a brutal massacre by Al-Shabaab terrorists at Garissa University College, a YouTube video has sensationally claimed that Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua predicted the attack several years ago.

The short clip, uploaded by the YouTube channel of Emmanuel TV, shows the controversial cleric addressing his congregation on Sunday 11th March 2012.

I have a message for Kenya now,” Joshua begins. “It is not yet over because I am seeing school children being targeted.”

The cleric, who has allegedly predicted several previous attacks perpetrated by Al-Shabaab militia, continues, “They attacked in a school - a situation where you learn something happened to the children. A touch on the children is a touch on God. They should pray fervently."

T.B. Joshua has gained a large following, especially in Africa, mostly due to the popularity of his Christian television station Emmanuel TV. His YouTube channel has 165,000 subscribers.

The clips description ends with a prayer: “We pray that God would strengthen and comfort the people of Kenya and all those involved in this tragic incident, in Jesus' name.”
