NFF plans two-year contract for Keshi

Details have emerged from the contract paper prepared by the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation for their returning coach, Stephen Keshi.

Our correspondent who spoke with a member of the committee on Thursday learnt that one of the major elements in the prepared document is that the former Nigeria captain gets a two-year contract rather than one or four years. We learnt that the length of the tenure was part of the disagreement in the initial talk with the coach during the early part of the 2015 AFCON qualifiers. His first tenure as Eagles coach was from November 2011 to July 2014.

“What we have now is a proposal as the board can approve or change our decisions especially as it concerns the length of the contract and the conditions to meet before he can get an extension,” the NFF board member said on the telephone.

“A lot of things were taken into consideration in reaching those decisions but we are just a group in the entire body and it is now left for the entire federation board to consider and approve.”

The contract is programmed to end with the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. The competition in itself has a lot of significance to the general draft of the contract. Keshi is expected to qualify the country for the competition in the first instance and then take the Super Eagles to at least the semi finals level. It is only when he achieves that level that he could be considered to continue the run to the 2018 World Cup. If he gets the nod to continue, then he must also qualify the country for the World Cupfinals scheduled for Russia. Nigeria failed to qualify for AFCON 2015 under Keshi.

Keshi’s contract with the Nigeria federation expired with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He was still negotiating for a renewal with the NFF when the country’s race to the 2015 African finals became wobbly. The federation relieved him of his position as the Eagles coach but was forced to return him to the Eagles bench at the intervention of the Presidency. Since the last quarter of 2014, the NFF and their estranged staff have endlessly negotiated the contract until last week when Technical Committee chairman Felix Anyasi-Agwu announced that Keshi had been picked as the sole candidate for the Eagles job.

The former Eagles captain is now also in the running for the coaching job in Burkina Faso. He has reportedly been selected for the final stage alongside two other coaches from Europe.

Boko Haram insurgents have released 158 women and children who were abducted from Katarko Village in Yobe State. The families have since been re-united with their families in Damaturu, the state capital.

The villagers who were kidnapped were released three weeks after they were captured from their village. Alhaji Ahmed Goniri, the state Commissioner for Justice and Chairman of the State Committee on Rehabilitation of Victims of Insurgency, said this while addressing newsmen in Damaturu on Thursday.
“The victims were screened by security operatives to authenticate their status while government provided them with psychological therapy to ease their trauma,” Goniri said.

The victims were reportedly released about three weeks ago, but the Nigerian security agencies kept them in their custody to ascertain that they were indeed captives.

Yobe state government has provided N50,000, two bags of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper to each of the 15 widows among the victims, while 47 other women received N30,000 each and same quantity of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper. Presenting the assistance, Goniri said government commiserated with the families of the victims and provided the relief materials to help them to settle back into their communities.

WOW ! Checkout This Pill That Can Stop HIV… . And Nobody Seems To Take It .

A drug that can prevent one from getting infected with HIV... isn't that what the world prays for? Well..Gilead Sciences Inc. may be one of the first drugmakers in history to have people asking why it’s not doing more to pitch its medicine.
Truvada, Gilead’s HIV drug, has been approved since 2004 for people with the virus. In 2012, use was expanded to people without HIV as a way of preventing transmission -- a practice called PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis. Taken daily, it can prevent infections 92 percent of the time, meaning it could drastically reduce new infections in sexually active gay men, among the U.S.’s highest-risk communities.
Thanks to its use in HIV patients, Truvada’s been a financial success, bringing Gilead $1.79 billion in the U.S last year. Yet out of 3.3 U.S. million prescriptions from January 2012 to March 2014, only 3,200 were for prevention.
There are many reasons: Gilead says PrEP isn’t a moneymaker, so the drugmaker doesn’t pitch the medicine to many of the primary care doctors who see healthy, HIV-negative gay men most likely to benefit from Truvada. Patients and advocates say doctors often don’t know about the medicine, and some insurance plans leave patients with copays as high as $1,300, making use by the healthy less affordable.
The result is thousands of people who could significantly lower their HIV risk, yet don’t. Some 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with HIV each year, with the highest rates among young gay males, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Yet in November, Gilead said that 42 percent of PrEP prescriptions written through March 2014 were for women, and only 7.4 percent were for men younger than 25.
